Cutting out charms from flat sheet metal on the Magic E7 machine is a precise and rewarding process, allowing you to create intricate designs with ease. Whether you’re crafting custom jewellery or decorative pieces, this step-by-step guide will walk you through selecting the right tool, securing your metal sheet, designing your charm, and executing the perfect cut. Follow along to ensure accuracy and achieve professional-quality results.

Step 1

First, if you have previously used the Magic E7 machine, change the choice of tool. Press the blue button on
the front of the machine and follow instructions on the machine to change the tool. I have selected a 0.60mm end mill cutter here.

Step 2

Then, measure your metal blank using digital the verniers and create a square template on the software computer. Select ‘Rectangle’ from the templates on the left. Input the correct measurements and press ‘ok’ to continue.

Step 3

Secure the metal sheet in the cutting vice and secure cutting vice into the main vice. Take the 25mm square sheet and check it is secured firmly and sitting flush to the floor of the cutting vice. Make sure the cutting vice is properly secured in the flat lay vice.

Step 4

To insert or design your metal. Click ‘Design Sample’, adjust placement and size to your preferred style. Select ‘Heart’ and choose a heart design. Select ‘ring’ and choose a ring design.

Step 5

To create a tool path. Select the heart design, select ‘outline toolpath’ and enter the engraving details, including metal width + 0.2mm, and click ‘create toolpath’.

Step 6

Now, send the engraving to the machine from the computer. To do this, select the tool path. Click ‘Magic-E7’ and click ‘start engraving’.

Step 7

Check the boundary mode, by using the displayed buttons at the bottom of the machine to adjust and see the boundary area, its likely a good adjustment will be needed when cutting out. Apply a good amount of WD40 or oil to create a smooth cutting process. Press the ‘play’ button on the
machine, which will show the probe dropping and the cutting process will begin.

Step 8

Now remove the metal sheet from the vice and your engraving is now complete.

By carefully following these steps, you can successfully cut out a charm on flat sheet metal using the Magic E7 machine. From tool selection to the final cut, attention to detail is key to achieving a clean and polished result. With practice, you’ll refine your technique and gain confidence in creating custom metal pieces. Now that you’ve mastered the basics, feel free to experiment with different shapes and designs to bring your creative visions to life!
